Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Advocacy Guide to the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS

SummaryText
The Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS was adopted unanimously by the member states of the United Nations in June 2001 as a means of defining a global response to HIV/AIDS for the next decade. The International Council of AIDS Service Organizations (ICASO) has prepared this 14-page Advocacy Guide to assist non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in using the Declaration to enhance the response to HIV/AIDS. National and regional strategies are included; for example, an NGO could lobby for the inclusion of sessions on HIV/AIDS in general, and the Declaration in particular, in both AIDS-specific and non-AIDS-related conferences in the region.

This update is a companion piece to the "Update on the UNGASS Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS", published in 2002 by ICASO. Click here for a description of that publication.
