Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
The Extending Service Delivery Project (ESD) introduces “How to Educate Clients about the Benefits of Healthy Timing and Spacing of Pregnancy." This tool, a set of online videos in DVD format, is for training primary-level providers and community health workers to identify opportunities to counsel clients on "Healthy Timing and Spacing of Pregnancy" (HTSP) and the benefits of family planning (FP) use.

This set of interactive training DVDs is focused on advocating and training on FP and maternal, neonatal, and child health, aiming to reach primary and secondary facility-level providers and trainers, as well as community health workers. The purpose of this DVD programme is to show how to make the evidence-based HTSP messages meaningful to clients of different ages and cultural backgrounds, in different life situations, and in various health care settings.

There are 5 sections:
  • Introduction: An explanation of HTSP and its foundation in scientific research, and an overview of the counselling scenarios that follow.
  • Three fictional counselling scenes focusing on clients at different stages of their reproductive lives: a young pregnant woman; a 32-year-old woman who has had a miscarriage; and an adolescent thinking about her future.
  • Frequently asked questions about HTSP.
