The Communication Initiative
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Journey of Hope Training Materials

Journey of Hope is a participatory HIV/AIDS health promotion package which uses practical tools to enable changes in sexual behaviour.
The package has activities and exercises that create a multi-sensory experience which enables participants to "internalise the learning in a way which they can easily retain and apply in real life".
Available either:
  • as a complete set of materials in a carrying case, or
  • electronically on CD, with instructions on how to produce your own sets of materials.

Set includes:
  • 3 wooden fold up 'narrow bridges'
  • 35 colourful laminated card characters and other illustrations
  • Fleet of Hope cloth with 3 boats
  • Model for demonstrating male condom
  • Illustrated Users Guide, 80 pages
  • Bag to store and carry all of the above.
CD includes:
  • Electronic copy of the User's Guide
  • Full instructions, drawings and photographs for you to reproduce as many sets of Journey of Hope materials as you need. Compatible with Microsoft Word 95/98/2000.
