This booklet provides information for truck drivers about how they can protect themselves from contracting HIV. Published in collaboration with the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Pakachere Institute of Health and Development Communication (in Malawi), Desert Soul Health and Development Communication (in Namibia), Femina Hip (in Tanzania), and Zambia Centre for Communication Programmes, the booklet was part of a targeted campaign carried out simultaneously throughout the SADC community countries in order to reach truck drives at border communities. Each country adapted the booklet to meet the local language requirements and included country specific referral contact details at the end of the booklet.
The booklet seeks to help truck drivers understand how HIV is spread through multiple and concurrent sexual partnerships and incorrect and inconsistent condom use. It shows how truck driver can protect themselves and their sexual partner from getting infected with HIV and creates awareness of the risks at which they put themselves and their wives or regular partners when having many sexual partners.
