Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Hi folks - we have expanded the Communications sub-committee to include other people working on media for the Summit plus some of the people working on the Secretariat, Steering Committee and sub-committees. If there are other people you think should join this thread please ask them to email me at wfeek@comminit.com

The initial PRESS RELEASE for the SBCC Summit can be downloaded as a file and opened from this link.

Please feel free to use this for your own press related activities. If you are issuing press releases please provide links to them in this thread. If you are reading this in email just click on "Please click to review ..." above and submit a comment.

A few quick observations on this press release into which I had some input but did not see the final version.

1. Please make sure to menton both social change and behaviour change. I understand that some orgs are more towards one end of the spectrum than others but if we can represent the Summit for what it is - both social change and behaviour change - that would be excellent.

2. This press release is focused on Indonesia media - you may of course have a different emphasis.

3. When providing quotes I wonder of we can get a balance betwen the large orgs and those in context in countries. This press release is perfectly natural as it is the first one but if you can take balance into account in your press releases that would be excellent.

4. The focus of the Summit is What Works? so an emphasis on that theme would be much appreciated.

5. Please include the hashtag in the press release

#SBCCSummit

This is the connective tissue for the Summit communications.

Please do share your press releases in this thread. Click on Please click to review ... above and submit a reply or comment. Would be excellent if we could learn from each other.

Thanks - Warren
