Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Information on "How to Create and Use Effective Video for Rights-Based HIV/AIDS Documentation and Advocacy: Strategies Learned from Intensive Trainings with Rights-based Advocates" (Wednesday July 21 2010, from 14:30-18:00, in Mini Room 6) - aims to increase participants' know-how of video advocacy strategies, which incorporate the tools of modern communication into rights-based campaigns for accountability and participation. Requesting your response and ideas...

Facilitated by Violeta Krasnic from the United States, this session will explore the power of video to catalyse grassroots activism, political engagement, and lasting social change. WITNESS presents concrete strategies for HIV/AIDS campaigns built around visual evidence, testimony, and stories - all of which use video to reach out to international and domestic audiences demanding specific change in policy or practice. Through interactive exercises, participants will have the opportunity to develop concrete ideas for using video in their HIV/AIDS advocacy work.
